Lovely Bunch of Coconut Parts

Remember The Professor from Gilligan’s Island?  You know, the guy who was just way too egotistical to have people call him by his actual name, demanding that everyone call him strictly “The Professor”?  (I guess The Skipper was no better, but that’s beside the point.)  Anyway, you know how The Professor could build pretty much anything imaginable from coconuts and bamboo.. except for, of course, a damned raft?  Well, he was only a high school science teacher, after all – maybe if he was a college professor he could’ve handled it.  Hmm.  Nope, rafts are just too much.  Or even a gigantic boat, for that matter! It’s not like they didn’t have huge amounts of time on their hands!  Apologies to all my high school science teacher readers, by the way. ;)

Ok, so what the hell is the point of this article, anyway?  Well, I just stumbled across something that would make The Professor wish he had brought even more books with him (on a 3-hour pleasure cruise, no less..)

How cool is that?  I know, a car really wouldn’t have done the 7 castaways any good, but still, being able to use coconuts to build car parts is pretty frickin’ cool.  A renewable resource, no less – of which there are already plenty!  Currently, the husks just get thrown away, and we all know how the landfills are just overflowing with coconut husks.  Solving that major environmental problem would make Al Gore proud.  I mean, we’ve had coconut oil and coconut milk for ages, so car parts should’ve been the natural progression a long time ago.  I can’t believe scientists didn’t come up with this sooner!  Man, it’s about time.
